In order to kick off the new year, we wanted to share a few of our favorite events going on in Central Ohio with you! Why not fill your first month of 2018 with one (or more!) of these super fun activities?


1. Ohio Chinese Lantern Festival

When: Monday, January 1st – Sunday, January 7th [530PM – 10PM]

Where: Ohio Expo Center & State Fair [717 E 17th Avenue, Columbus, OH 43211]

Admission:  $10-$15

What: All-new, beautiful, artfully crafted Chinese lantern displays will light up the Ohio Expo Center this holiday season when the Ohio State Chinese Lantern Festival returns to the Natural Resources Park at the Ohio Expo Center through Sunday, Jan. 7.

2. Paint Your Pet @ Studio 614

When: Sunday, January 7th [630PM]

Where: Studio 614 [2487 Summit Street Columbus, OH 43202]

What: This is a 3-hour class for beginners, and your pets will already be sketched out on all canvases! No experience is necessary, and all supplies are included with artist instruction & sketch. For time constraint, we allow only 1 pet per canvas, and 1 painter per canvas. Our stretched canvases are 16″x20″. Once you register, please e-mail a photo of your pet to [email protected], so that we can sketch it on the canvas before class. Please be sure that the photo is clear with proper lighting. Only one pet per canvas. It could be a photo of any size-Instagram square, portrait, landscape, circle, etc. We may zoom-in when sketching it.

3. Phantom of the Opera

When: Wednesday, January 3rd – Sunday, January 14th

Where: Ohio Theatre [39 E State Street, Columbus, OH 43215]

Admission:  $39-$140

What: Cameron Mackintosh’s spectacular new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera comes to a city near you as part of a brand new North American Tour. This production, which retains the beloved story and thrilling score, boasts exciting new special effects, scenic and lighting designs, staging and choreography and has been hailed by critics as “bigger and better than ever before.”

4. Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Florida Panthers

When: Sunday, January 7th [5PM]

Where: Nationwide Arena [200 W Nationwide Blvd, Columbus, OH 43215]

Admission: $26-$235

What: The only National Hockey League franchise in Ohio, the Columbus Blue Jackets play at Nationwide Arena, located in the heart of the Arena District in downtown Columbus.

5. Winter Jam 2018

When: Saturday, January 20th [5PM]

Where: The Schottenstein Center [555 Borror Drive, Columbus, OH 43210]

Admission: $15 Donation @ the Door

What: GRAMMY-nominated, Platinum- selling and Billboard Music Award-winning rockers Skillet will headline the Winter Jam 2018 Tour Spectacular, showcasing a lineup of some of the best and brightest in Christian music.

6. Lana Del Ray

When: Tuesday, January 23rd [8PM]

Where: The Schottenstein Center [555 Borror Drive, Columbus, OH 43210]

What: Lana Del Rey announces that she’ll be taking her new album, Lust for Life, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, on the road for a highly-anticipated 24 date tour including a January 23 play at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus, OH.

7. Disney on Ice

When: Wednesday, January 24th – Sunday, January 28th

Where: Nationwide Arena [200 W Nationwide Blvd, Columbus, OH 43215]

Admission: $20-$100

What: Mickey and his pals set the stage for a star-studded talent extravaganza as Disney on Ice presents reach for the Stars. Sing along with Anna, Elsa and Olaf to songs like “Let it go” and “In Summer.” Sebastian strikes up his band and the Daughters of Triton introduce Ariel in a pop montage. Get tangled up with a chorus of harmless hooligans when they get a visit from Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. Relive a tale as old as time when Belle opens her heart and the Beast’s enchanted staff take center stage for a dazzling spectacle.
